If we were asked which tennis courts offer great durability and resistance over the years—and, on top of that, require minimal maintenance—we would undoubtedly say that they are the Tennisquick or TennisFast® porous, self-draining concrete tennis courts(a registered trademark of Reindesa). They can last up to 25–30 years with very little maintenance! However, if you want to maximize their durability and prevent them from deteriorating prematurely, it’s important to keep a few points in mind that will help you enjoy the durability of a porous concrete tennis court for as long as possible. 1. ALWAYS KEEP THE SURFACE CLEAN
To remove dirt that accumulates on the surface, simply sweep or blow it away to remove leaves, dust, or mud that may have settled there. You can use a pressure washer if there is caked-on debris or if you want to clean more thoroughly; since the surface is porous, the water will seep through and drain away on its own.
2. CRACK REPAIR
Do you see a crack or fissure? Repair it right away so it doesn’t get any bigger. We’ll use cement and special synthetic resin mortars, which have the advantage of allowing repairs to be made in sections rather than across the entire surface. Furthermore, when the pavement has reached the end of its useful life, it is not necessary to tear it all up; instead, a new layer is laid on top after first drilling holes in the slab and adding a layer of gravel to separate the new pavement from the old.
3. KEEP WEEDS AT BAY
Small patches of grass may sprout from the small cracks that form on the surface, affecting both performance during play and the court’s durability. We will prevent the growth of weeds, grass, and moss by applying a specific fungicide annually.
4. MAINTENANCE OF BOUNDARY LINES
They are important not only for the appearance of the court but also for its functionality. We must ensure that they are always clearly defined and visible. If the lines are worn or faded, repaint them to keep them clear and precise.
5. REPaint the Floor
This step can be performed approximately every 10 years (depending on each court and its location). First, a thorough cleaning with a pressure washer will help open the pores and improve the court’s drainage.
We will apply elastomer-based acrylic paint by spraying it over the entire surface in two cross-coated layers. It offers excellent resistance to outdoor wear and tear and UV rays.
6. ALWAYS ENSURE PROPER DRAINAGE
Since this is a type of surface with permeable pavement, we must ensure that water drains properly to prevent puddles from forming or water from pooling when it rains. That is why it is important to keep the surface free of debris to prevent the drainage system from becoming clogged and to maintain the pavement’s permeability.
